Rules, Regulations, & Other Things To Know As A Potential Patient

Prescription Marijuana

Marijuana is legal in the state of Florida when prescribed by a certified and registered medical marijuana doctor and used for certain conditions, including the following:

●       PTSD

●       Cancer

●       Alzheimer’s Disease

●       Anorexia

●       Crohn’s Disease

●       Parkinson’s Disease

●       MS

●       Lou Gehrig’s Disease

●       Glaucoma

●       Muscle Spasms

●       Epilepsy

●       Schizophrenia

●       Chronic Pain

●       Wasting Syndrome

In Florida, there are two types of marijuana that fall under the medical category: low-THC medical cannabis and THC-containing medical cannabis. Which category you end up using will depend on the condition(s) meant to be treated. The low-THC category strains contain more CBD, or cannabidiol, than they do THC. The CBD reduces the side effects of the THC, making for a much more clear-headed experience. It also seems to counteract the side effects of the THC, meaning a strain with high amounts of THC and CBD shouldn’t have the usual “high” people experience when smoking marijuana from off the streets. There are three main types of strains: sativa, indica, and hybrid. Sativas are typically uplifting, and are good for combating depression. Indicas are more relaxing, and can be used to treat conditions such as insomnia. Hybrids are as their name implies: a mixture of the other two.

Current Florida Law allows for the sale and purchase of vapor, capsules, tinctures, oils, and topical, nasal, and transdermal medical marijuana products. It does not, however, allow for the sale of whole flower products, nor consumption by smoking.

To be considered a medical marijuana patient in Florida, you must be at least a seasonal resident, 18 years of age or older, been diagnosed with one of the conditions listed above, and be under the care of a registered medical marijuana doctor. With hundreds of thousands of drivers on the road, the odds of getting into an accident are unfortunately high. Even if you are one of the best drivers, you may not be able to avoid crashes with negligent drivers. Often after an accident, drivers refuse medical care as they think they don't have any injuries, or the injuries are not too serious. However, pain and soreness can develop later in the day, so the best thing to do after an accident is to seek medical treatment. Sometimes, injuries affecting the soft tissue may not appear for days or weeks after an accident. Car accident injuries may include pain or stiffness, chronic and severe headaches, loss of range of motion, dizziness, fatigue, blurred vision, as well as more severe issues like broken bones. Usually, those involved in an accident don’t realize how bad their injuries are until they’ve resumed their normal daily activities. After an accident, you should visit a physical therapist as it will: Help support your recovery process- Rather than sitting in a bed waiting for your body to heal, physical therapists can get you up and moving to help build your strength and reduce stiffness and pain. Reduce pain- Movement helps oxygenate the blood, which will help the body heal itself and reduce your pain. Prevent long-term damage- Physical therapy can prevent long-term damage like chronic pain and migraines if it is started right away. Prevent surgery- While strengthening muscles, ligaments, and tendons, physical therapy is much more cost-effective and doesn’t require downtime. If you have a serious injury, surgery may be required.
